Below, we’ve compiled some of the most common questions we’ve heard throughout our 30 years in business. Check out our heating and cooling FAQs below and get in touch with us when you need to schedule HVAC services in Sisters, Bend, Redmond, or the surrounding areas.

How can I tell what size heating or cooling unit I need?

The ideal system size of your heating or air conditioning will depend upon the total square footage of the area you are trying to heat or cool. Generally speaking, the larger your home or business, the larger the unit you’ll need. The size of your HVAC equipment will also depend on whether or not you have existing ductwork, as well as how extensive any existing ductwork is.

I need to replace my air conditioner. How much is it going to cost?

Whether it’s an air conditioner, furnace, boiler, or any other HVAC equipment, the cost of your replacement will depend on what type of system you’d like. Remember, the cheapest equipment on the market could end up costing you, as these systems are typically not as well made as high-efficiency heating and cooling systems.

How is heating and cooling efficiency measured?

The industry standard for measuring most HVAC efficiency is the SEER rating. The exception is gas furnaces, which are measured in AFUE. The higher the SEER rating, the more efficient the system is.

Is there an ideal temperature I should set my thermostat?

We recommend setting your thermostat to 72 degrees. Even if it is an extremely hot day, setting the thermostat lower than this will not result in any noticeable difference. The same is true of setting the thermostat higher than 72 degrees on very cold days.

Should I get a programmable thermostat?

Programmable thermostats offer a number of benefits, namely, the ability to save energy (and money) by programming your heating and cooling system to shut off when no one is home.

Can I conduct maintenance on my own air conditioner?

Home and business owners can carry out minor maintenance tasks to ensure that their ACs are operating at peak efficiency. Clean or replace the air filter regularly and make sure vegetation does not grow around the AC unit. This can help you avoid problems with energy efficiency or with the unit itself. For any other issues, it’s best to call a professional for AC maintenance services.

Are electronic air filters really effective?

Yes! Electronic air filters are a great option for those who want to improve their indoor air quality without having to shell out a ton of money. These systems require very little maintenance. With regular, once-monthly cleanings, you can enjoy greater indoor air quality all year long.

How often should I schedule heating/AC maintenance?

We recommend that you have your heating and/or cooling system inspected twice a year, ideally once in the fall and once in the spring. We provide outstanding heating and AC Performance Tune-Ups for homes and business throughout the Central Oregon region.
